National Cat Day is 29 October.
In 2012 this page held a calendar of about 35 animal awareness days. Many of them are informal and change from year to year. These six were confirmed on the organizers' own pages on 4 October 2026.
- September: National Preparedness Month. FEMA's Ready campaign has used the month since 2004 to encourage Americans to prepare for emergencies.
- 4 October: World Animal Day.
- 13 October: International Day for Disaster Risk Reduction. Set by the United Nations. It has been held since 1989.
- 16 October: National Feral Cat Day. Led by Alley Cat Allies.
- 29 October: National Cat Day. Colleen Paige started it in 2005 to show how many cats need rescue each year, and to celebrate the cats we live with.
- Early May: Be Kind to Animals Week. From American Humane. It lists 2 to 8 May for 2027.
The rest of the old list is not repeated, because we could not confirm those dates from a source.
