Who the former organization was
In 2009 and 2010 this page set out what the former Pet Safe Coalition meant to do. It listed four aims, summarized here:
- Make pet owners aware that they carry the main responsibility for their pets in a disaster.
- Teach owners how to prepare for emergencies.
- Get residents, animal groups, local businesses and officials to plan and run emergency response together.
- Give limited, short-term emergency shelter to the pets of Nassau County residents whose own plans fell through as a disaster closed in.
The page also asked for donated supplies, such as crates, carriers and fencing, for its animal holding pens. That appeal ended long ago. Please don't send anything to the old address.
To plan for your own pets today, start with pet disaster planning. To find a shelter or rescue near you, use Find local help. What became of the group is on the history page.
