About the former Pet Safe Coalition

From 2010 to 2012 this address held the About page of the former Pet Safe Coalition, a volunteer group in Nassau County, New York. Here is what it said, in our words rather than a copy.

Its mission

To help pet owners learn about emergencies and get ready for them with their pets.

Its history, as the page told it

The page said the coalition began in 1998 as a working idea to help animals that get overlooked in disasters. It was officially founded in 2005 and, the page said, was recognized then as the first County Animal Response Team in New York State. It also said it was the only organization in Nassau County dealing with emergency management for animals. That was the group's own claim, and we have not checked it.

Its volunteers, according to the page, came from many fields, among them animal rescue, humane education, veterinary medicine, law, cruelty investigation and emergency response.

A date that doesn't match

The group's later website gave 1999, not 1998, as the year the program was created. The full story, with sources for each step, is on the history page.
