The BlanketID pet tag project
In 2013 the former group promoted a pet identification tag it called blanketID. The page opened with the group's mission and goals, then explained the tag.
What the page said
- Visible ID on your pet at all times is the first line of defense in getting a frightened pet back to you without it taking space in an overcrowded shelter.
- If you are separated, the special tag would give extra help getting the pet returned, or at least guidance for whoever found it.
- Sales of the tag and each membership renewal paid for the group's awareness work.
The page also repeated the group's goals: to tell pet owners that they carry the main responsibility for pets in a disaster, to educate them, to encourage cooperation among citizens, animal groups, businesses and officials, and to offer limited temporary sheltering for pets in Nassau County. It claimed the group was the only organization in Nassau County dealing with emergency management for animals. We have not confirmed that.
Today
This tag is not sold here, and there is no purchase link. The advice behind it is still sound. Ready.gov and the ASPCA both recommend a collar with an ID tag and a microchip with current contact details. See Pet disaster planning.
