Not out of the woods: a 2013 reminder
Posted on the former site on 30 July 2013.
The address of this page suggests a list of emergency pet shelters. It never held one. The text at this address is a reminder, titled "Not out of the Woods", that hurricane season was not over.
What it said
- Talk with your family about what to do if told to leave or to stay.
- Decide where everyone will meet, and name one person to keep track of where everyone is.
- Put go kits together for every family member, pets included, and practice monthly.
- For a stay-at-home kit, keep at least 7 days of water, food, hygiene supplies, comfort items, and copies of identity papers and medical or vet records.
Where to look today
Shelters open and close depending on the emergency. This site does not list them. Ask your local emergency management office, or look in Find local help for organizations in your area. For what to pack, see Pet disaster planning.
