Tip 19: kit, refuge and a way there

Tip 19: every pet needs a go kit, a planned place of refuge and a way to get there. Ask friends and vets, and get your pet used to its carrier.

Every pet needs three things: a go kit, a planned place of refuge and a way to get there.

  • Ask friends, relatives, your vet and breed or obedience club members whether they could help.
  • Get your pet used to its crate or carrier. A pet that rides calmly is a more welcome guest.

Ready.gov says to know a safe place to take your pet before the emergency, and to make the carrier a comfortable place with treats and a familiar blanket.
