Tip 18: more than one plan
Posted on the former site on 29 May 2013.
One plan is not enough. The old tip said to set up more than one, with friends and family, before the season begins.
- Nearby helpers suit local trouble like a house fire or a power cut.
- Distant contacts suit large events such as hurricanes, floods, wildfires and earthquakes.
- The old tip told Long Island residents to plan to help each other across the North and South shores. The same idea works anywhere: pair up with someone who lives on a different side of the hazard.
Ready.gov says to agree on a buddy who can care for or evacuate your pet if you cannot, and to give an emergency contact outside your immediate area on your pet's microchip record.
