Tip 17: rotate the food in your kit
Posted on the former site on 28 May 2013.
Food in a go bag goes stale. Pick a date you will remember, and swap it out as the seasons change. The ASPCA says to rotate food about every two months and replace stored water at the same time. Ready.gov says to review kits regularly so food and medicine stay fresh.
The old tip added advice from the Long Island Parrot Society. Birds should eat a wide variety of foods every day. In an emergency some foods will be scarce, and you want your bird to recognize what is on offer as food.
