Tip 8: a care sheet for your parrot
Posted on the former site on 19 May 2013.
The former site credited the Long Island Parrot Society for this tip. Post an up-to-date care sheet for your parrot by the cage or where you prepare food.
What to put on the sheet
- Your avian vet and any backup caregivers, with phone numbers.
- Your bird's name, species and distinguishing marks, or a photo.
- How to handle the bird, and how and what to feed it, including treats.
- Where the medicine is kept, with times and doses.
- Words, whistles or sounds your bird knows.
- Where to find any papers about the bird.
A sheet like this lets a stranger care for your bird if you cannot. The ASPCA also says to keep recent photos and to leave leg bands on for identification.
