Founder's view, 2012 and 2013
This was a category page on the former site holding three posts signed by the group's founder, Nancy Lynch. They date from December 2012 and January 2013.
Families, 11 December 2012
She wrote that more than 60 percent of families include pets, and argued that pets sheltered for six or seven weeks should be reunited with their families quickly. She said the group's volunteers had cared for more than 500 pets since Sandy struck and that the county was working on a fostering program.
Sandy, 21 December 2012
More than 50 days after the storm, she described slow recovery and the cold. Many people who had studied disaster survival still felt unprepared. Hot-weather tips did not help in the cold. Gas shortages stopped trips to places of refuge. Her advice was to be prepared, and not scared.
New Year, 2 January 2013
She wrote that some pets were finally going home after eight weeks at the Nassau County emergency pet shelter, that the group had helped care for more than 500 animals, and thanked those who had helped it grow since 1999. These are her own statements. We have no independent record of the numbers.
