Broken boardwalk: Long Beach after Sandy

Posted on the former site on 20 December 2012.

This was a short photo post from December 2012 about Long Beach, on Long Island's south shore. It was about the town, not about animals.

It said Sandy's surf had torn the steps from the beach to the boardwalk apart. A block from the ocean, bulldozers had pushed mountains of sand off the streets. Some shops had signs saying "Open for Business", and workers in air-filter masks were restoring the ground floors of condos and townhouses flooded by salt water.

The photos are not restored here. The post fits into the group's account of the Sandy shelter, which took in pets from places like Long Beach. See the group's history.
