From the front: shelter numbers, 2013
Posted on the former site on 14 February 2013.
This short post was a recap for volunteers of where things stood at the Nassau County Emergency Pet Shelter, about three and a half months after Hurricane Sandy.
- Just over five dozen cats and three dozen dogs were still there.
- A handful of owners had given up their pets for adoption.
- Foster families were wanted for pets whose owners were not ready to go home.
- The tarp curtains were down, and separate play areas had been set up for cats and dogs on their floors.
- A small crew staffed the shelter, with the Pet Safe Coalition and North Shore Animal League continuing to serve. The group said its team was the only all-volunteer staff there.
The numbers are the group's. We have no independent count for that date.
