Hurricane seminar in Great Neck (2008)
Dated 8 August 2008.
Pargol Nazarian Khadavi reported in the Great Neck Record on 8 August 2008 on a hurricane preparedness presentation and FEMA flood update that Nassau County Legislator Judi Bosworth sponsored on 30 July at the Cumberland School.
- Speakers came from the county Office of Emergency Management, the American Red Cross, the Community Emergency Response Team and the Pet Safe Coalition.
- FEMA had redrawn flood maps, which put many residents into higher-hazard zones, and its guidance strongly recommended flood insurance even outside those zones.
- The emergency office's deputy commissioner said officials call for evacuation based on its forecasts, and urged residents to prepare.
- The group's president spoke on planning ahead so pets could stay with their owners during a disaster.
